We are seeking a high-impact Business Development Manager - Electric Systems to lead business development efforts in advanced electrification projects across the marine, defense, energy and heavy industrial markets. This role will play a pivotal part in expanding SIT’s reach in fully electric and electrohydraulic system integration by engaging key OEMs, operators, and design firms. You will represent SIT’s capabilities in control systems, energy conversion, and high-power actuation while building strategic relationships that drive long-term growth. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of electric system technologies and an ability to navigate complex sales cycles involving engineered-to-order solutions.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Strategic Growth & Market Development: Drive SIT’s electrification strategy by identifying new opportunities in electric propulsion, energy storage integration, and automation for marine, defense, and industrial applications.
- Executive Relationship Management: Cultivate senior-level customer relationships across engineering, operations, and procurement functions. Serve as the primary commercial interface for long-cycle, high-value programs.
- Solution Selling: Lead consultative sales efforts that involve engineered electric and electrohydraulic systems, including system design collaboration, control logic, and power distribution integration.
- Cross-Functional Sales Enablement: Collaborate with SIT’s engineering, operations, and project management teams to develop comprehensive technical proposals and ensure seamless handoff from concept to execution.
- Partner Ecosystem Engagement: Coordinate with strategic vendors and technology partners to build tailored system architectures and leverage best-in-class components.
- Sales Pipeline Management: Own the sales process from opportunity identification through close, including forecasting, pricing strategy, contract negotiation, and CRM updates.
- Technical & Market Expertise: Maintain current knowledge of industry trends in electrification, system integration challenges, and relevant regulatory environments.
- Growth Reporting & Strategy Alignment: Report sales progress to senior leadership and contribute to strategic planning initiatives for the Electric Systems division.
- Brand Representation: Represent SIT at industry trade shows, technical conferences, and customer visits as a subject matter expert in electric systems integration.
- Team Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to less-experienced sales personnel, helping them build technical confidence and deepen their understanding of electric and electrohydraulic systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
- BSEE, BSME, BAEET (ABET accredited university), or equivalent technical degree with equivalent experience.
- PLUS+1 Certified or PLC training from any of the widely used PLC manufacturers (Siemens, Allen Bradley, IDEC) is strongly desired.
- Fluid power experience and fluid power specialist certification are a plus.
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of experience in the application and development of power systems using electric machines, power electronics, generators, etc.
- Working knowledge of system and electrical engineering principles and processes is a plus.
- 5+ years in a customer-facing technical support role.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of working with power systems, grid p electronics, PLC programming & mobile control systems – PLUS+1 preferred.
- Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced “startup” environment and quickly shift between customer projects and priorities.
- Excellent communication skills – orally & written – with both internal stakeholders (sales, technicians) and external stakeholders (manufacturer partners & customers).
- Results-oriented and "hands-on" approach. Possess strong organization skills, strong customer focus and orientation.
- Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
