This role may be based in NYC, DC, Chicago, or Houston.
A Researcher with Business Intelligence team for US and Canada conducts specialist desktop research and analysis of public record information in support of complex business intelligence, fraud and litigation support investigations, while also supporting all research components of cases involving corporate due diligence investigations and compliance-driven screenings.
This position requires both the organized and diligent collection of information, as well as the flexibility and creativity to look beyond a checklist and problem-solve.
The Researcher synthesizes information into well-structured Client reports to help clients identify and mitigate sources of legal, reputational and security risk. The candidate will also be a mentor to any junior staff members (such as an intern) and have responsibility over their content. They must also have time management skills and keep in line with client deadlines and budgets.
Lastly, the Researcher will learn about other Control Risks business lines to better collaborate with these teams and suggest research that might benefit the Client.
Tasks and responsibilities
Research
- Conduct comprehensive database and media research for enhanced due diligence, business intelligence and other complex and often multijurisdictional projects as required
- Accurately identify and analyze relevant records, often within short time frames
- Analyze research results within the context of the project
- Analyze information obtained through field work and intelligence gathering activities
- Understand and utilize a variety of open-source and proprietary public records database to identify information
Writing
- Summarize relevant research findings in a well-organized report
- Produce reports that are accurate, well-written and convey a narrative
Business management
- Undertake case-related administrative tasks including liaising with subcontractors, invoice approval and accrual of costs, input of client information in marketing database and support to the Case Manager in proposal and report writing.
- Support more senior team members with scoping research for proposals
Team work
- Collaborate with team members in the report writing and feedback process
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without sponsorship.
- Candidates must possess unrestricted US work authorization.
Knowledge and experience
- Demonstrated research and analysis experience, preferably in corporate investigations
- Experience in the use of US and/or Canada public records, including media and litigation databases and online search tools preferred.
- Understanding of the US and/or Canada legal system and regulatory environment and basic knowledge of US and/or Canada business and politics preferred.
- Familiarity with online media sources and adept at understanding and validating where information comes from, particularly Western English-media sources preferred.
Qualifications and specialist skills
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Excellent computer skills. Ability to use Microsoft Office programs: Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written English
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines or the flexibility to manage multiple projects at once

The base salary range for this position is $65,000-$73,000 per year. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
