This position reports to the Administrator and Deputy Administrator for Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The Administrator and Deputy Administrator oversee the Maintenance and Operations of Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which includes all of its amenities such as the Unisphere, Playgrounds, BBQ areas, and natural areas, as well as its programs and events.
Major Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, with some latitude for independent initiative and judgment, in coordination with FMCP Operations team, develop volunteer and stewardship event opportunities for the broader Flushing Meadows and Queens communities to participate in parkwide.
- Field volunteer group requests and pair interested volunteer groups with appropriate projects throughout Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Work closely with our Partnerships for Parks team to enhance and develop FMCP’s Volunteer Program.
- Track volunteer engagement, and track volunteer recruitment and engagement progress against stewardship program goals.
- Prepare project plans specific for urban sustainability, creating both long and short term restoration and conservation projects for natural areas. Work closely with the Natural Resources Group (NRG), Parks Stewardship Program and NYS Trails Team.
- Educate volunteers about the environmental functionality of the different ecosystems through the FMCP landscape, including the species diversity.
- Facilitate community outreach through communication with established community groups, community boards, schools, and second chance programs. Through phone calls, email correspondence, participation in community events and information fairs.
- Assist in registration and leading volunteers at events.
- Prepare reports and perform data analysis on all aspects of FMCP operations; synthesize information and identify emerging issues, drawing from internal reporting systems including the Asset Management Park System (AMPS), Daily Tasks, Parks Inspection Program, Forestry Management System (ForMS), and external sources, such as 311, Citywide Event Management System (CEMS) and crime data from NYPD.
- Review and analyze reports generated centrally pertaining to seasonal staffing hours and seasonal performance metrics; identify possible factors contributing to data trends and recommend adjustments / actions to improve performance outcomes, based on analysis; follow up with operations managers and supervisors on their execution of Agency and borough directives intended to improve performance.
- Conduct research; prepare presentations, briefings, and reports.
- Provide outstanding customer service and administrative support for day-to-day operation of the Flushing Meadows Corona Park Administrator’s Office; answer phones, respond to inquiries from the public and draft correspondence to constituents.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
