MCCU Supervisor

Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY BETWEEN $75,000.00-$80,000.00

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.

The Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) provides a wide range of services and programs for youth at every stage of the juvenile justice process. Our goals are to (a) build stronger and safer communities and advance public safety by preventing juveniles from entering the New York City's juvenile justice system, (b) provide therapeutic treatment and services to youth in our custodial care, and (c) help juveniles access the tools they need to leave the justice system for good. We strive to help families and young people by providing supportive services that are responsive to the needs of individual youth and families. Within the Division of Juvenile Justice, the Office of the Chief Operating Officer (OCOO) handles procurement, budget, hiring, program management, and other administrative operations and planning for the division.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Movement Control and Communications Unit (MCCU), the Supervisor of MCCU is responsible for the oversight, supervision, and daily functioning of a team of direct reports in the centralized and around-the-clock communication and transfer hub for the Division of Youth and Family Justice's (DYFJ's) Detention and Placement Services.

Specific duties of the MCCU Supervisor include but are not limited to:

- Provide daily supervision to a team of staff, ensuring efficient workload distribution and productivity

- Coordinate staff deployment to ensure adequate coverage for 24/7-unit operations

- Maintain ready knowledge of incident categories and definitions to competently enter data and to guide others in database entries

- Review daily incidents recorded in the appropriate database to ensure incidents are well written and accurate, and to ensure that the categorization and attributes sections are correct

- Conduct review of incident reports in real-time, as well as post-distribution to ensure accuracy and completeness of content

- Enter reports and updates in the incident database as needed

- Verify that daily census reports for Detention and Placement are accurate and supervise comparisons of written facility rosters with databases

- Make sure staff have access to available databases to input data to properly verify court information to search for warrants and generate or vacate ACS warrants

- Verify staff accurately enter data in database for all clinic appointments, probation pre-placement appointments and orders to produce

- Track special court orders appropriately and distribute expeditiously upon receipt

- Manage information sharing with various law enforcement agencies regarding AWOLs and absconds

- Ensure Open Remand screenings and Placement Recommendation Tool requests are completed in a timely manner

- Generate routine documents or special notices to relevant parties.

- Review/audit logbooks or other recordkeeping sources for appropriate and accurate entries

- Conduct individual conference and group meetings with staff concerning the interpretation and implementation of agency policies and procedures

Special note:
- Candidates may be considered for day, afternoon or overnight shifts. Assignment includes weekend, holiday, and overtime shift coverage to support the 24/7-unit operations.
