The NYCERS Customer Service Unit in Client Services Division has an opening for a Retirement Counselor. The candidate should possess effective communication skills, as well as effective writing skills to engage clients. Additionally, the candidate should possess the aptitude to handle complex issues that require more than five minutes of service attention, as well as the ability to effectively communicate resolutions to client related inquiries concerning these topics.
Counselors provide in-depth 1-on-1 counseling interviews for potential retirees, seeking detailed information regarding their NYCERS pension accounts, buying back pre-member time in order to retire, membership reinstatement, estimated benefit calculations or who are seeking to file for service retirement. Retirement Counseling interviews can last up to an hour and the Retirement Counselors are expected to record the details of this transaction in the NYCERS system of record and ensure that all necessary forms are correctly annotated and signed.
Retirement Counselors must comply with information security procedures by validating customer identity and maintain customer confidence.
Counselors can provide these services in-person, by phone, or video conference. Retirement Counselors also can also be called upon to support the NYCERS Call Center, as needed.
