As the Carbon Analyst of a nature-based solutions company committed to developing high-quality voluntary carbon offset projects, this person will be a high energy individual with strong natural resource management experience.


The Carbon Analyst performs spatial and data analyses for forest carbon offset project development. The Analyst’s work will center around inventory data management and carbon quantification, forest growth and yield modeling, carbon accounting, and detailed documentation of all project-related work products. This includes, but is not limited to, processing and analyzing large quantities of field data, analyzing land cover using Arc GIS, utilizing forest growth and yield models such as FVS, managing incoming inventory data, documenting work products, and assisting with project development activities.



Responsibilties
  • Conduct analyses related to forest carbon stock quantification and forest modelling in accordance with rigorous carbon development standards, such as Verra and Gold Standard. 
  • Assist in the delivery of high-quality documents, maps, and reports used in carbon offset verifications. 
  • Respond to findings and questions from verification bodies and greenhouse gas registries. 
  • Organize and manage forest inventory data in Excel.
  • Develop Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS) growth and yield models, under supervision.
  • Conduct literature reviews and research.
  • Coordinate across teams to ensure accurate deliverables. 


  • Undergraduate or master’s degree with a demonstrated interest in forestry, GIS, natural resource management, or environmental studies. 
  • An understanding of common forest management practices and regulations. 
  • 1-3 years of experience with geospatial analyses and data acquisition
  • 1-3 years of experience in forest resource sampling and field data collection. 
  • 1-3 years of experience in natural resource management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel for data analysis. 
  • Critical thinking skills and a knack for learning new material quickly. 
  • Good time-management and self-management skills, as well as the capacity to take direction and work independently to reach identified goals on a set timeline.
  • The ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive project deliverables.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and adapt to changing business priorities.
  • Strong team-building skills, adept at forging positive relationships across the business.
  • Be aligned with our mission and passion.  You don’t have to be a forester, but long-term forest conservation and reversing the effects of climate change need to be a passion that drives you.
  • Capable of working effectively with remote team members throughout the U.S.
  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willing to travel domestically (limited).


$60,000 - $65,000 a year
The base salary range for this position is expected to be between $60,000 – $65,000, subject to the chosen candidate’s experience, skills, certifications and qualifications, determination of which is made in the sole discretion of the Conserve Director.
All employees are eligible to participate in health, insurance, and 401K plan benefits on their first day of employment. Chestnut Carbon pays 100% of the cost of the employees’ health/dental/vision insurance. During each fiscal year of employment, employees will be eligible to earn a discretionary annual incentive bonus, based on company and individual performance targets.
