Job Brief
The R&D Technician, Metallurgy on the Pyrometallurgy team will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of some of the pilot plant pyrometallurgical unit operations. They will assist with the assembly of the pilot and support bench-scale equipment manufacturing and R&D. They will also contribute to pilot plant equipment commissioning and auxiliary infrastructure and support as needed. This position reports to the Senior Engineer, Pyrometallurgy.
This role is based in Oakland, California and is an on-site position.
Key Focus Areas of the role may include:
Assemble mechanical systems and conduct electrical work
Fabricate, commission, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot bench and pilot scale equipment
Collaborate closely with engineers on design and fabrication activities
Contribute to process and efficiency improvements
Prepare and handle bulk materials for testing or analysis
For this role, we’re looking for:
Associate’s, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience
A minimum of 2-3 years in an industrial or research and development setting
Prior experience with the assembly, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of pilot or commercial production equipment
Strong understanding of equipment operation
Bias for action and ability to deliver creative solutions to technical problems
Attentive to detail and safety
Ability to work cross functionally and willingness to take ownership of projects
Comfortable standing for extended durations and working with hand tools
Excited about learning and growing in a fast-paced environment
Additional skills that are preferred but not required:
Experience operating burner systems
Proficient with forming and machining tools and techniques
Experience operating pilot or larger equipment
Experience with material construction such as alloys, ceramics, refractories, and insulation

Salary range for this role is $75,000 - $87,000 per year
