Job details

Digital Designer/Front-End Developer

As one of the largest independent people communications agency in the UK, Blackbridge Communications helps household name brands to attract and engage talent. Located in Spitalfields, London, we do that by creating and delivering creative campaigns and strategies across all channels, from digital and social through to outdoor and experiential.

One of the reasons why we’re so dedicated to delivering exceptional work for our clients – Aviva, Amazon and Rolls-Royce are just three – is the fact that we’re an employee-owned business. It means we all have a real stake in our success. Join our 45-strong team of Creatives, Strategists, Client Partners and Delivery specialists, and you’ll have that stake too.

We’re looking for a hybrid designer/frontend developer to join our small multidisciplinary team, producing great-looking, highly engaging and interactive websites for a wide range of clients. The role demands a high level of technical and design skill, where you’ll work on every stage of a project from initial briefing through to production.

You’ll be able to create well-executed design mock-ups, and build effective, attractive, and accessible responsive interfaces for the web.

You’ll participate in

  • Early-stage idea generation and planning
  • Building UX prototypes
  • Designing intuitive user interfaces in Figma
  • Building interactive and accessible web front-ends using modern web technologies
  • Developing custom WordPress themes and building components for use in server-side and client-side JavaScript environments
  • Finding intelligent solutions to client problems from design to the technical implementation
  • Working together with project managers to fully understand the clients’ needs

Skills & experience

  • Strong experience in a digital design or front-end position
  • Demonstrable design execution skills (Figma/Sketch, Photoshop)
  • Good knowledge of best practice UX/UI
  • Excellent grasp of HTML and CSS
  • Solid grasp of modern JavaScript and DOM frameworks
  • Experience with git
  • Great research and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to visualise original designs in response to a client brief
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Interest in, and active engagement with AI solutions

We’re looking for someone with a broad selection of skills, and we’ll consider your application if you’re more designer than dev, or more dev than design, but you must be able to demonstrate both. We’re looking for someone with a genuine passion for digital communication, interfaces, and technology, to continue to push the work we do for our clients.

Interview process:

We like to keep things clear and supportive, so here's what to expect:

  1. Initial discussion with our People Coordinator – a chance to learn more about the role and for us to get to know you.
  2. Interview with our Lead Developer and Head of People – focused on your experience and including competency-based questions. (can be in-person on online)
  3. Personality questionnaire – helping us understand your natural working style and how you might fit within the team.
  4. Final stage interview with the Head of Digital, Lead Developer and Digital Project Manager - a chance for you to demonstrate some of your portfolio/work, and discuss any questions you may have

Our rewards run deep

  • Unlike most agencies, we’re employee owned – which is exactly as it sounds. After 12-months, you’ll become a Partner of Blackbridge and receive your fair share of our profits.
  • Colleague-run Partner Council that gives us a voice in the opportunities we pursue as a business.
  • A structure and team spirit that inspires you to produce your best work, stay engaged and find ways to develop via regular check-ins with your manager or team.
  • A work-life balance is important to who we are. We’re all good at what we do, and we work hard, but we intend to enjoy that success by living our lives.
  • ‘Fun-loving and considerate’ sums up our culture, with regular socials and events designed to inspire a closer bond between a diverse group of people.
  • A minimum of 25 days holiday, 1.5 days extra at Christmas and enhanced parental leave, because as we’ve said, life comes first.
  • Employee Assistance Programme through Health Assured is available 24/7, because wellbeing is our priority
  • Medicash – a holistic range of impressive health and wellbeing benefits for you and your children.
  • Enhanced parental pay and leave, so you can settle your family in, enjoy the early days and maintain your sense of financial security.
  • We offer hybrid working – 3 days in the office and 2 from home, with Mondays as our core in-office day – because flexibility matters.
