Job Overview/Summary
The Head of Business Development, Drug Manufacturing is responsible for leading and overseeing the drug manufacturing sales team, setting sales goals, developing and executing sales strategies, coaching sales representatives, managing budgets, analyzing performance data, and ensuring the team meets or exceeds sales targets, all while fostering a motivated and productive sales environment.
This position is accountable for growing sales of BioDuro’s small molecule manufacturing services in the U.S market across all phases of drug development through commercialization.
The role is US based and can done remotely
A travel commitment of 50% is expected
Key Responsibilities
· Sales Strategy Development: Create and implement comprehensive sales plans to achieve revenue goals aligned with company strategy
· Team Leadership: Hire, train, and motivate field sales, commercial operations and inside sales teams to maximize performance and achieve individual and team sales targets.
· Performance Management: Regularly monitor sales activity, analyze sales data, and provide feedback to sales staff to identify areas for improvement.
Utilize company CRM tools (Salesforce.com) and productivity tools to assemble and report information
· Goal Setting: Set clear sales goals for the team and individual field sales staff, aligning them with overall company objectives.
· Coaching and Development: Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to sales staff to improve their sales skills, product knowledge, and customer relationship management.
Regular co-travel to client sites with field sales team
· Account Management: Manage key customer accounts, build strong relationships with clients, and ensure customer satisfaction.
· Sales Pipeline Management: Oversee the sales pipeline, identifying potential opportunities, and ensuring effective lead generation and qualification. Provide periodic sales forecasts utilizing CRM tools (Salesforce.com). Support proposal management and contracting process
· Budget Management: Manage the sales budget, allocate resources effectively, and track expenses.
· Reporting and Analysis: Generate sales reports, analyze data trends, and present insights to senior management to inform strategic decisions.
Essential Competences
Key Role Interfaces
· The Head of Business Development, Drug Manufacturing reports directly to Bioduro’s Chief Commercial Officer
· 2 field sales, one inside sales associate and one proposal writer direct reports
· Key large pharma and biotech decision makers in drug manufacturing and procurement functions
· Partner with President of Drug Manufacturing, Irvine California
· Daily contact with Irvine facility leadership to co-ordinate operations output and champion client satisfaction
· Regular liaison with marketing leadership providing input to marketing strategy, marketing materials and conference attendance
· Periodic exposure to CEO and Private Equity owner leadership
· BS or advanced degree in Chemistry, Biology, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutics, or an equivalent; an MBA is a plus
· A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience in directly managing sales teams and complex accounts
· Willing and able to travel extensively in the US
· Proven experience selling pharmaceutical CDMO services to both large pharmaceutical companies and biotech sectors
· Direct API and commercial product manufacturing experience
· Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry including quality control testing, development and manufacturing of drug products, FDA regulations
