The Director, Supply Chain will be pivotal in scaling our operations, driving supply chain excellence, and ensuring the seamless delivery of our client products. This role requires a strategic leader with deep expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing, logistics, warehouse management, vendor negotiations, and procurement, coupled with the agility to address tactical challenges as they arise.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Develop and implement comprehensive short-term and long-term supply chain and procurement strategies as our production operations are scaled, incorporating actionable plans, key performance indicators (KPIs), and continuous improvement initiatives to align with company objectives.
- Develop a plan to address short term and long term storage needs for products across a range of storage conditions. Plan should assess third party options as well as onsite options.
- Implement a warehouse management system in collaboration with stakeholders in finance, procurement, production planning and manufacturing.
- Oversee and optimize purchasing, sourcing, operational forecasting, manufacturing demand planning, and supply chain coordination to meet quality and delivery standards, enhance throughput, reduce costs, and optimize inventory investment.
- Lead all facets of distribution and logistics, global trade compliance, production planning, procurement, warehousing, and inventory control to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
- Design and implement best-in-class supply chain strategies that support complex commercial distribution across multiple markets, ensuring scalability and compliance.
- Drive sustainable improvements in product availability, inventory performance, and cost productivity through the application of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Assess and reorganize the existing supply chain structure to enhance customer service, inventory turnover, and reduce freight and distribution costs.
- Participate in the improvement of the new product launch process to ensure timely availability of materials, optimizing production planning and minimizing delays.
- Evaluate and implement finished goods warehousing solutions, including the assessment of 3PL providers, to enhance distribution efficiency.
- Implement advanced forecasting methodologies to improve forecast accuracy, leveraging statistical tools and market insights.
- Determine the ideal organizational structure for the supply chain function to achieve objectives, including the coordination and aggregation of purchases across the organization.
- Negotiate with current and potential vendors for the purchase of raw materials, equipment, parts, and services to achieve optimal value, quality, and terms, ensuring on-time delivery to meet production needs.
- Continuously assess market conditions and source new vendors to manage the company’s cost position, seeking discount structures and volume rebates when possible.
- Optimize capacity plans and master scheduling processes to create efficient material flow, driving achievement of quarterly revenue targets.
- Drive focused efforts to improve inventory turns across raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods inventory, performing analysis and setting inventory targets.
- Collaborate in the implementation of ERP and MRP systems, ensuring accurate data inputs and system alignment with supply chain objectives.
- Develop, mentor, and hire as needed for the supply chain team to build a robust succession pipeline and strengthen organizational capacity.
QUALIFICATIONS - 10+ years of experience in various sterile injectable pharmaceutical supply chain and purchasing roles and 5+ years in a leadership position withing a supply chain or purchasing function.
- 5+ years experience in sterile injectable warehouse management
- Has previously worked with high-growth businesses and understands the unique challenges of fast-paced growth.
- Experience in supply chain support of sterile injectable pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Knowledge of MRP systems, with the understanding of how system data affects desired outcomes, as well as experience with ERP System implementation is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES - Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Strong leadership and team development skills, with the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management capabilities, with a track record of achieving favorable terms and conditions.
- Proficiency in statistical forecasting methodologies and demand planning tools.
- Deep understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex supply chain challenges effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
