Job Description

The Senior Manager of Brand Communications plays a key role in leading the development and execution of communications/public relations (PR) strategy specifically for Aspen Skiing Company (ASC), and the Aspen Snowmass brand. This role will drive media relations, messaging and external communications for ASC and support across the larger Aspen One Corporate & Brand Communications team. This position reports to the Director of Corporate and Brand Communications. 

The budgeted salary range for this position is $70,000 - 95,000. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience; all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.

Essential Job Functions 

  • Drives communications strategy for ASX, building brand messaging and storytelling, maintaining a proactive media relations calendar, defining Key Performance Indicators and leading tactical execution to measurable results 
  • Host media in-resort regularly, including developing itineraries, working strategically with internal and external partners to develop full-scope hosted visits 
  • Drive a highly proactive PR calendar throughout the resort’s winter and summer seasons, staying ahead of upcoming events, story opportunities and media timelines  
  • Manage reactive communications including ongoing media inquiries, rapid crisis response, community issues and media trends 
  • Lead in-resort event press management, including organizing press conferences, media center setup and staffing, vetting media credential requests, and working closely with events teams and partners to support event operations 
  • Regularly pitch and correspond with media across local, regional, national and endemic markets; nurture relationships with key reporters, build and maintain media lists and establish a strong network of media contacts 
  • Represent the company’s voice as a spokesperson with the media 
  • Collaborate and support work with external stakeholders including local and state tourism organizations, external PR agencies, local businesses, event partners, professional societies 
  • Serve as lead project manager for the ASC PR team, helping to funnel requests in and work cross-functionally with other teams to maintain PR support across the business 
  • Develop press materials including press releases, media pitches, announcements, key messaging, media kits, briefing books and more 
  • Maintain ongoing pulse of media landscape including local, regional, and national markets as well as across relevant beats such as travel, outdoor & ski, sustainability, business. 
  • Track media coverage and regularly report on PR campaign performance; monitor and analyze effectiveness of PR outreach and regularly communicate insights to management 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements     

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field required 
  • 7-10 years of experience in the field of public relations, communications or relevant marketing 
  • Experience in outdoor industry media and communication preferred 

 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Communications expert with strong written and oral communication skills, finely tuned listening skills  
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with media, industry partners, local stakeholders and community members 
  • Project management and organizational skills, proactive ownership of projects and tasks and ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders on projects 
  • Working knowledge of media platforms, industry news outlets and trends, how to pitch media, media monitoring and research 
  • Strong copywriting and editing proficiency, familiarity with AP style 
  • Ability to make informed decisions quickly, considering both short-term and long-term impacts  
  • Ability to solve complex issues and find solutions in challenging situations  
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously without sacrificing quality  

Additional Information

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

  • Ability to stand, type and sit at desk/computer for most of the work shift executing repetitive movements.  
  • Ability to frequently work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces.  
  • Ability to ski for multiple hours daily on varied terrain and in varying weather conditions that are typical of the mountain environment. 
  • Not required, but preferred to be able to lift, push or pull 25 lbs. individually or with assistance
