We are seeking a strategic, technically fluent Chief of Staff to partner with our Head of Engineering and leadership team. Must be able to thrive in fast paced environments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering, operations, and strategy - driving clarity, alignment, and execution across the organization. This role will help scale our Engineering org and optimize team processes.


This role requires a proactive individual who excels in project coordination and cross-functional collaboration. We have created the Factors of Growth & Impact to help Villagers better measure impact and articulate coaching, feedback, and the rich and rewarding learning that happens while exploring, developing, and mastering the capabilities and contributions within and outside of the org.


Technical Skills:
  • Quickly synthesize and comprehend complex information and use this to effectively partner and consult with technical stakeholders.
  • Track and interpret metrics, set KPIs, and use data to drive decisions.
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize systems and processes to enhance efficiency and collaboration within the engineering department.


Complexity and Impact of Work:
  • Develop and execute strategic plans, in collaboration with the Head of Engineering and leadership team, balancing immediate needs with long-term scalability.
  • Manage, track, and moderate KPIs for the Engineering department to ensure alignment with organizational goals and maintain accountability.
  • Lead retrospection of delivery and roadmap and guide the Engineering team's to improve processes.
  • Own & drive strategic projects and initiatives, such as process improvements around project delivery, operational excellence and implementation of new initiatives.


Organizational Knowledge:
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, ensuring alignment and understanding of engineering initiatives with the organization’s broader business goals.
  • Collaborate with the People partners on strategic People-related initiatives and goals.
  • Act as a sounding board for the Head of Engineering and provide support for investor updates, presentations, and other materials.


Communication and Influence:
  • Manage relationships and communications with technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and collaboration on engineering initiatives.
  • Manage Engineering meetings, setting agendas, documenting decisions, and ensuring follow-up on action items.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Engineering on logistics, time management, and administration.
  • Translate and articulate complex technical information into clear and understandable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain channels for receiving and providing feedback within the engineering team, helping ensure continuous improvement and employee engagement.


You may be a fit for this role if you have:
  • Strategic Program Leadership: Ability to drive and operationalize strategic initiatives, manage complex cross-functional projects, and support decision-making
  • Operational Excellence: Skilled in building and refining internal processes (e.g., Roadmap planning, engineering operational processes, dependency management) to improve team efficiency, alignment, and accountability across Engineering
  • Exceptional Communication: Excellent communicator who can distill complex topics for diverse audiences, drive alignment across stakeholders, and influence outcomes
  • Tool & Systems Fluency: Excellent mastery of tools and systems (e.g. Linear, Notion, Whimsical, Slack, Google Workspace)
  • Technical Expertise: Good understanding software engineering and its practices (SDLC, infrastructure, metrics, tools)
  • Execution: High ownership and bias for action to execute strategic and improvement initiatives.
