Job Description

We're looking for a Backend C# Engineer & Tech Leader to support several projects for a European institution, concerning security and border control activities.

Responsibilities

  • Gathering and documenting requirements for microservices, designing architectural solutions, preparing documentation, and identifying potential risks and challenges.

  • Analyzing the existing monolithic system, defining microservice boundaries, refactoring code for modularization, decoupling components, and documenting the adopted approach.

  • Defining API endpoints, implementing required functionalities, aligning response formats, coordinating integration points, and conducting integration testing.

  • Assessing current performance to identify bottlenecks, refactoring code for efficiency, scaling microservices, implementing optimization strategies, and conducting performance testing.

  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation on architecture, setup, and micro frontend usage, performing code reviews, and providing feedback to ensure continuous quality improvement.

  • Working closely with business analysts and architects to clarify and refine business needs.

  • Managing and coordinating teams involved in the design, development, and maintenance of microservices-based applications.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in developing web-based applications using a microservices architecture and expertise in migrating monolithic applications to microservices.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related field.

  • Strong programming skills in C#.

  • At least 5 years of proven professional experience, including designing and developing microservices-based applications for large-scale organizations.

  • In-depth understanding of microservices architecture, including orchestration and choreography patterns (SAGA) within a Domain-Driven Design (DDD) approach.

  • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain scalable, loosely coupled microservices.

  • Experience in building and deploying high-quality APIs (REST/WebSockets) for service communication and external integrations.

  • Proficiency in containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).

  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum), with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team, share knowledge, and mentor colleagues.

  • Proficiency in English language (B2+/C1 level) and strong communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Possession of an EU-CONFIDENTIAL (or higher) security clearance.

  • Experience in a Senior or Lead Developer role, mentoring junior team members.

  • Hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift (RHOS).

  • Strong understanding of design patterns such as Service Discovery, Circuit Breaker, and API Gateway (preferably KONG).

  • Proficiency in implementing event-driven architectures (EDA) using Kafka, along with experience working with asynchronous messaging systems.

  • Familiarity with distributed databases and data management strategies (SQL/NoSQL).

  • Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Jaeger) in combination with a Service Mesh communication layer.

  • Expertise in securing applications using token-based authentication mechanisms (JWT, OAuth2) and other security measures.

  • Experience developing for cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and their associated toolsets.

  • Background in building observability features for microservices.

  • Strong understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD).

  • Experience setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for microservices deployment (Azure Agent, ArgoCD, Helm Charts) and working within a CI/CD environment using Azure DevOps.

  • Knowledge of secure coding practices, including OWASP Top 10 security principles.

  • Ability to apply best practices, software development patterns, and methodologies (e.g., SOLID principles). Familiarity with UML notation.

  • Proficiency in Git workflows.

  • Experience writing automated unit and integration tests.
