Job Description:

  • The primary focus of this role will be to manage the design, cost, quality, schedule, and safety for multiple power transmission line projects that are both customer and internally-driven within the Capital Upgrade & Replacement program. This position will have the opportunity to work alongside professionals of various professional backgrounds within the organization and externally. This role is based out of the Calgary office, and will report to the Manager, Lines Project Delivery within the Projects Department.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Effectively define and manage multiple transmission line projects concurrently within a matrix organization; with budgets up to $8 Million each, from a total annual portfolio budget up to $55 Million. 
  • Execution of projects will be with a strong commitment and focus on safety, environmental respect and stakeholder engagement. .
  • Lead a team through the siting and regulatory approval processes to receive Permit and License on projects.
  • Act as a key contact with clients and internal stakeholders throughout project execution reporting progress in a timely and efficient manner and obtaining approval for all scope and schedule changes.
  • Manage a number of consultants and contractors throughout project execution.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple customers and changing priorities. 
  • Effectively and accurately report project status, finances, and schedule for senior management.
  • Manage AltaLink's identity with clients and stakeholders affected by Line Projects.
  • Manage and communicate with consultants and AltaLink project team members on project scope, objectives, accountabilities and commitments.
  • Provide input to and lead initiatives as required to improve business efficiency.
  • University Bachelor Degree(s) in Engineering required. 
  • Must currently have the experience necessary to qualify, or is already registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). 
  • At least 5 years of engineering or project management/utility experience required.
  • Transmission line engineering/construction experience would be an asset. 
  • Project Management Certification would be an asset.
  • Experience working in SAP would be an asset.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
  • Experience in leading and influencing multi-discipline teams within a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with people internally and externally.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic changing environment.
  • Capable of managing multiple competing priorities and resilient to changing circumstances.
  • Strong team player. 
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license and be able to periodically go to sites to conduct observations.
  • Proven track record of good performance and attendance.   
  • Proven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities.
