Life Insurance Operations Analyst

Afficiency is a rapidly growing Insurtech startup whose mission is to provide life insurance to everyone on the platforms they already trust. Located in NYC, we design life insurance products that can be purchased entirely digitally and can be easily embedded into distribution platforms or with agents who sell insurance. The company is experiencing exponential growth and is well-funded. We are looking for new team members to join us on our journey to shake up the life insurance industry. About the Role 

You are not just a Business Analyst.  You are someone who knows life insurance and can step in on Day 1 ready to roll.  You’ve worked across digital product launches, UX journeys, detailed spec docs, and are just as comfortable talking with engineers as you are with insurance carriers. 

We don’t want someone who thinks they can do it. We want someone who’s done it, and wants to do it again, faster and smarter. 

Responsibilities 

• Own the documentation process from top to bottom: requirements, workflow diagrams, data mapping, process maps, you’ve done it all 

• Translate requirements into clear, actionable artifacts for development teams, QA, and UAT 

• Partner closely with Product Managers, SMEs, and external partners to deliver work that is high quality and on time 

• Serve as the go-to person for explaining the “why” behind requirements (especially during testing) 

• Jump between UX, APIs, underwriting logic, and business workflows without missing a beat 

• Represent Afficiency in client and partner meetings with confidence and professionalism 

Must Have 

• 2–5 years of experience as a Business Analyst or similar roles in life insurance with a special consideration for candidates with backgrounds in digital platforms, agent portals, and underwriting 

• Proven ability to create and maintain detailed technical and functional documentation 

• Experience working in a fast-paced, startup, or consulting environment 

• Strong communication skills across both technical and non-technical teams 

• Comfort navigating product conversations around platforms, APIs, and user journeys 

• Sharp problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to self-manage 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

Salary 

$70,000–$95,000 + equity + great benefits 

Work Arrangement 

Hybrid – NYC (2 days/week in-office)
