  • Compensation: $28-32/hour
  • Travel/Location: On-site Tallahassee, FL. Candidates must be within a reasonable commuting distance of Tallahassee, FL.

 

Mission of Role/Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative entry level Grant Specialist to support application development for the designated funding program. The ideal candidate will combine expertise in emergency management with strong analytical, technical writing, and stakeholder engagement skills to ensure successful program funding and compliance.

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of FEMA Swiftwater and HMGP housing applications for the Elevate Florida program.
  • Assist in the research, development, and submission of funding applications tailored to the program.
  • Review program requirements and guidelines to ensure applications meet eligibility and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to collect and validate data required for funding applications, including damage assessments, cost estimates, and project scopes.
  • Use data analytics tools to support applications with evidence-based justifications.
  • Prepare high-quality application narratives, budgets, and supporting documents.
  • Ensure all submissions align with federal and state regulations, funding guidelines, and deadlines.
  • Work closely with internal teams, clients, and external agencies to gather necessary information and refine application strategies.
  • Monitor funding program updates and gain knowledge of best practices in emergency management funding.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline application processes and improve success rates.
  • Provide QA/QC of applications to reduce or eliminate RFI from FDEM and FEMA.

Expected Hours of Work:

Schedule may vary. Work on evenings and weekends may be required. Dependability and punctuality are paramount.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% travel is expected for this position.
  • Must be willing to travel and deploy to client sites for extended periods of time.

Physical Demands:

  • Mobility required on-site with clients.
  • Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 30bs. repetitively throughout the day and as needed.

Working Environment:

  • Emergency management personnel may work in an office or home environment or be deployed to the field which may require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Work may be on-site with clients ex: EOC, hospital, debris sites or local government buildings.

Experience/Education Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management or a related field is required. Years of experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis, in addition to the minimum requirements.
  • Knowledge of developing FEMA Grant Applications,
  • At least 1 year of related education or experience with grants.
  • Knowledge of FEMA and other federal funding programs and policies.
  • Exceptional technical writing and editing skills, with an emphasis on clarity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using data management tools (e.g., Excel, databases, or GIS) for application preparation.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.

Experience/Education Preferred:

  • 1+ year experience with application development Experience with similar housing programs
  • 1+ year of relevant experience with HMGP housing programs
  • Internship in emergency management or grant writing.
  • Experience with data visualization tools to support funding applications.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery and mitigation planning processes.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsored visa is required. We are not able to employ those located outside of the US.
  • Must pass company and any applicable client background check and reference check upon offer of employment.
